E.L. Watson fonds. 1912-1979.

The fonds consists of records from the Engineering Science Leads Committee of the B.C. Agricultural Services Coordinating Committee (BCASCC), on which Watson sat for the period 1967 to 1978. Composed of representatives of the Provincial Ministry of Agriculture, Agriculture Canada, and UBC Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, the Committee advised the Minister of Agriculture and allotted research funds in the province. The fonds also includes subject files, printed material and article off-prints which reflect Watson's wide range of interests in the field of agricultural engineering.

Born in Saskatoon, Sask., Ernest Watson grew up in Vancouver and attended the University of British Columbia where he earned a B.A.Sc. in 1940. After working in the private sector, he returned to UBC in 1952 as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering. He earned an M.Sc. from the University of California (Davis) in 1955. Watson specialized in food processing engineering and continued to work in the department until his retirement in 1980.
